Important Message from Mrs. Burris (Includes a Survey)

posted Aug 17, 2018, 4:29 PM by Tonya Smith

Good afternoon Icard Elementary,

I am sure that everyone is as excited about the new school year as I am! I look forward to all of the new adventures we will encounter. As you are well aware, fundraising for the benefit of our students is very important. The funds raised help to ensure quality educational experiences for your child. The Leadership Team at Icard Elementary would like for you to consider and voice your opinion concerning an alternative to the traditional fundraising that has occurred in the past. Beginning in mid-September and running through mid-October, students will be encouraged to bring in donations from their families and loved ones. Students may have multiple donors. No donation is too large or too small! SERIOUSLY! We want all students to feel a part of contributing. Amounts will be kept confidential except for a receipt to the donor as official acknowledgement. The following reasons helped the Leadership Team move in this direction:

1.Loss of instructional time- It is felt that LESS instructional time will be lost. Envelopes will simply be gathered and turned into the office for recording. There will be no time lost in the distributing of items to be delivered to customers or tracking down money.
2. Safety- It is felt that children could possibly be placed in harm’s way when trying to sell goods door-to-door.
3. Overhead- For every item purchased last year, Icard received only 40% of the price.

For each donation, again no amount is too large or small, students will be given a leaf to place on their classroom tree in honor or memory of an individual whom they choose. The trees will be temporarily displayed in the school gym for a culminating activity. Plans are in the works for that culminating activity. Based on percentage of participation, one K-2 and one 3-5 classroom will receive a reward such as a pizza party. The link for the survey is as follows:

Here are some reminders for the week of August 20-24. Open House will be from 4 until 6 in the evening on Thursday, August 23. This will be an excellent opportunity for you and your child to come meet his or her teacher. Also, please take the opportunity to sign up for PTO. This school needs you! An informational table will be located in the Media Center. Computers will be available in the Media Center for you to use concerning free or reduced lunch sign up.

Do not forget to fill out the survey. Your opinion is important!
