Principal
Icard Elementary

Icard Community,
I am honored to be chosen to continue to lead Icard Elementary as your principal. It is with great admiration and respect for this great community and its achievements that make this place my home away from home. It is my continued vision to make Icard Elementary School one of the top schools in the region.

This is my 6th year serving Burke County Public Schools and my fourth year as a principal. My previous administrative experience was at Robert L. Patton High School as assistant principal of curriculum and instruction, followed by serving as Principal of Hillcrest Elementary over the past two years, and this past year at Icard.  Prior to administration, I worked for Caldwell County Schools from 2005-2018 as both a middle and high school teacher of social studies and English Language Arts.

I am an Ohio native and graduate of Malone University in Canton, Ohio where I obtained my undergraduate degree in education. As a lifelong learner, I initially obtained a master’s degree in English Language Arts from Appalachian State University (go Mountaineers) in 2008 and later went back to the same institution for an additional add-on licensure and pursued a Graduate Certificate in School Leadership in 2018. I hold National Board Certification in Young Adolescent English Language Arts (grades 6-9).  I have lived in North Carolina and worked for the state for the last twenty years and love where I live. I currently reside in the Baton Community with my husband and two school-age girls.

I continued to be humbled and blessed to serve this fantastic community.  Please feel free to call the school or email me at carlyjohnson@burkek.12.nc.us to discuss questions or concerns you have throughout the school year. I look forward to working with each of you to help every student at Icard find their own success and thrive as we prepare to continue to make Icard the paradigm of excellence in elementary school education.
